Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers made history Sunday by striking out the opening seven batters from the Colorado Rockies, surpassing the team’s previous mark for consecutive strikeouts to start a game. The dominant performance saw Misiorowski fan 11 of the first 12 Colorado hitters he faced before eventually allowing a home run.
The previous Brewers record stood at six consecutive strikeouts, set by Quinn Priester on September 18 of last year in a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Misiorowski’s achievement falls short of the major league benchmark, which Pablo López established when he struck out the first nine Atlanta Braves batters on July 11, 2021, in a 7-4 Miami Marlins win.
Misiorowski retired the first 14 consecutive batters before Cole Carrigg connected for a home run with two outs in the fifth inning. His seven-strikeout opening sequence demonstrated exceptional command, including a 104.3-mph fastball that struck out Hunter Goodman to close the first inning.
The pitcher’s strikeout streak extended through multiple innings, with batters falling victim in the second and third frames before resuming in the fourth. His performance remained historic despite falling three strikeouts short of the MLB record for consecutive strikeouts within a single game, held jointly by Corbin Burnes, Tom Seaver, and Aaron Nola.
