“The Odyssey” maintained its iron grip on North American audiences during its second weekend in theaters, generating $87 million in domestic ticket sales. The modest 30% decline from opening weekend represents an exceptionally strong hold for a major studio release and demonstrates sustained moviegoer interest in the Christopher Nolan epic.

The film’s second-weekend performance surpasses any previous Nolan directorial effort at this point in theatrical runs. “The Dark Knight,” released in 2008, previously held the record with $75.2 million in its second weekend. Industry analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Rentrak called the result “a testament to the outpouring of excitement and enthusiasm that moviegoers are having for Christopher Nolan’s latest epic.”

Globally, “The Odyssey” has accumulated $639.6 million, bolstered by $128.3 million from international markets this weekend. Premium large-format screens continue driving a significant portion of revenue, with IMAX screens alone contributing $48 million to the worldwide total. The 41 available 70mm IMAX screens generated $5.2 million, with most showtimes sold out through September.

Disney’s “Moana” and “Toy Story 5” finished second and third with $10.5 million and $10 million respectively. “Toy Story 5” crossed the $1 billion global milestone, becoming the sixth Pixar release to achieve that benchmark. Bleecker Street’s “Hadestown: The Musical” debuted in fifth place with $9.7 million.

The summer box office has surpassed $3 billion overall, running approximately 10% ahead of the prior year. Industry observers anticipate continued strength through August, particularly as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” enters competition next weekend.
