Attorney Claims Jurisdictional Defect Undermines Bahamas Murder-for-Hire Case Against Lindsay Shiver

A defense attorney for Georgia beauty queen Lindsay Shiver contends that fundamental legal flaws should force Bahamian authorities to abandon murder-for-hire charges she faces in connection with an alleged conspiracy to kill her ex-NFL player husband. According to Craig Shirley, the prosecution’s case contains what he characterizes as a “legally fatal” defect centered on where the defendant was located when authorities say the conspiracy occurred.

Shirley argues that prosecutors cannot establish Shiver was in the Bahamas on July 16, 2023, the date when the alleged plot supposedly took place. The attorney maintains his team has submitted evidence from multiple independent sources demonstrating the defendant was within the United States during that time period, which would strip Bahamian courts of the authority to prosecute under local law.

Shiver stands accused alongside her alleged Bahamian lover, Adrien Bethel, and suspected hitman Faron Newbold Jr. of conspiracy to commit murder under Bahamian statute. All three entered not guilty pleas following their arrests in July 2023 after authorities uncovered WhatsApp messages during an unrelated investigation into a bar break-in in Abaco.

Shirley stated he issued the statement independently without advance notice to Shiver or her Bahamas-based attorney, Terrel Butler. He expressed disappointment that authorities were continuing prosecution despite what he views as a clear absence of jurisdictional authority to charge his client.
