A residential fire in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens destroyed or damaged multiple homes, resulting in one fatality and widespread injuries across the community. Emergency responders were called to the scene where the blaze had already spread to several adjacent units by the time firefighting efforts began.
The incident left 21 people injured in total, according to official statements from city authorities. Among those hurt were 19 members of the fire department who suffered injuries while battling the flames and conducting rescue operations at the affected structures.
Fire officials continue investigating the cause of the blaze as residents of the damaged buildings were displaced from their homes. The extent of property damage remains under assessment as recovery efforts continue in the Queens neighborhood.
