The New York Mets placed All-Star outfielder Juan Soto on the 10-day injured list Saturday as a result of a left calf strain. Soto sustained the injury during Friday’s 4-2 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers, when he appeared to experience discomfort while running to second base on a double-play grounder hit by Bo Bichette in the second inning.
Soto drew two walks against Dodgers starter Roki Sasaki before being removed from the game in the sixth inning with the score tied. The Mets slugger has appeared in 84 games this season, batting .293 with 21 home runs and 52 runs batted in.
This marks the second stint on the injured list for Soto with the same injury. He previously missed 15 games from April 3-21, during which the Mets compiled a 3-12 record without him.
The Mets addressed the roster move by recalling infielder-outfielder Eric Wagaman from Triple-A Syracuse. Wagaman has batted .162 with two homers and four RBIs across 21 games this season.
