New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel made his first substantial media appearance since the offseason turmoil involving NFL insider Dianna Russini, arriving at his training camp press conference with an unexpected companion: a puppy available for adoption. The second-year coach participated in the Patriots’ “Pawtriots” program, which held its second consecutive dog adoption event on the opening day of training camp.

Vrabel opened the Friday presser with the canine in hand, using the moment to promote adoption while keeping the focus firmly on football matters. “Welcome everybody, it’s good to see you guys. If anyone’s looking to add to your roster at home, we’d love for you to be able to adopt these dogs,” Vrabel said with a visible smirk, according to reports.

The strategy proved effective. Reporters directed approximately six of roughly 20 questions toward unsigned second-round draft pick Gabe Jacas and related contract negotiations, with no inquiries about Russini or Vrabel’s personal conduct during the offseason.
