A shooting attack in the northern West Bank resulted in five fatalities Friday, according to health authorities monitoring the conflict. The incident unfolded near Nablus, though immediate details about what triggered the violence remained unclear as both sides reported casualties among their populations.
Palestinian health authorities in Ramallah attributed the deaths of four Palestinians to Israeli military forces. Israel’s emergency medical service, Magen David Adom, did not immediately identify responsibility for the Israeli fatality in the incident, which marked an escalation in regional tensions.
Medical personnel on the Palestinian side were treating four wounded civilians, three of whom were reported in critical condition. Israeli rescue services announced they were evacuating two injured Israelis by helicopter from the West Bank location.
The Israeli military stated that soldiers mobilized following reports of an assault targeting Israeli hikers in the vicinity of the Havat Gilad settlement, positioned west of Nablus. A security lockdown was subsequently established around Nablus and the adjacent Palestinian community of Tell as authorities responded to the situation.
