Manhattan Suspect Arrested After Two Men Stabbed in Upper West Side Attacks

Law enforcement arrested a suspect Thursday after two separate stabbing incidents left two men injured on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, according to the New York City Police Department. City officials characterized the violence as an “antisemitic stabbing,” though investigators have not yet formally determined a motive or designated the assaults as hate crimes.

The first victim, a 57-year-old man, was attacked near West 84th Street and Central Park West shortly after 1:30 p.m. local time. Officers discovered him conscious and alert with a stab wound to his back and transported him to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Authorities later located a second victim, a 50-year-old man, in the vicinity with a stab wound to his torso. He was similarly conscious and alert at the time of discovery and was admitted to a hospital in stable condition. Police are investigating whether the assailant wielded a knife or screwdriver during the alleged attacks.

The neighborhood where the incidents occurred contains a significant Jewish population. New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin condemned the violence in a statement on X, saying she was “absolutely sickened and furious” by the attacks and emphasizing that all New Yorkers deserve to feel safe. She praised the NYPD’s swift apprehension of the suspect.

New York Assembly member Micah Lasher, a Jewish representative of the area, stated he is coordinating with police and community officials regarding the incidents. He expressed concern for the victims’ recovery and pledged to share additional information as it becomes available.
