President Donald Trump is set to take the podium Friday evening at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, marking his return to the event nearly three months after an armed assailant attempted to kill him during the spring gathering. The White House confirmed the attendance roster exclusively to Fox News Digital ahead of the rescheduled banquet, which will take place at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C.
Most Cabinet-level officials plan to attend the dinner, though several high-ranking figures will be absent. First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will not participate, according to a White House spokesperson, who attributed their non-attendance to scheduling conflicts.
The dinner’s venue marks a departure from tradition, as the White House Correspondents’ Association has historically held the annual event at the Washington Hilton. The decision to relocate came after the spring incident, during which an armed suspect breached the Washington Hilton event in what authorities characterized as an assassination attempt on the president.
Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, described the rescheduled event as a “more intimate gathering” when announcing the new date in June. Jiang emphasized that the dinner would serve as both a program continuation and a statement against violence, stating that “a free press will not be intimidated into silence” and that “courage and community can and should rise above.”
