The Long Island Rail Road officially inaugurated its newest station in Yaphank on Friday with a ceremonial test run before welcoming regular commuters beginning Saturday. The milestone marks the completion of a significant infrastructure addition to the regional transportation network serving the area.
Concurrent with the station’s opening, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has launched an assessment of potential service enhancements throughout Long Island’s eastern corridor. The study will focus on examining feasible upgrades to both scheduling frequency and passenger capacity on existing routes.
