A California prison escapee who was captured south of the border has been freed following a judicial order from a Mexican court official. The state’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the inmate’s release, which stemmed entirely from decisions made within Mexico’s legal system.
The court’s determination to release the fugitive has left law enforcement uncertain about his current whereabouts. California corrections officials stated they possess no intelligence regarding the escapee’s present location or movements since his release.
Agency representatives emphasized that U.S. authorities played no role in negotiating, arranging, or influencing the Mexican court’s decision to free the prisoner. The release was handled exclusively through Mexico’s own judicial proceedings without involvement from American officials.
