North Carolina DoorDash Driver’s Nose Ultimately Solves a Month-Old Murder

A routine food delivery in Charlotte, North Carolina, led to the discovery of a homicide scene earlier this month, after a DoorDash driver reported a foul odor coming from a residence — ultimately prompting police to uncover the body of a young woman concealed inside the home.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to a residence on March 10 after the delivery driver contacted authorities with concerns about a strong, unusual smell. Upon entering the home, investigators located the body of 21-year-old Evelin Carolina Enamorado-Cisnado, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents and local reporting indicate the victim’s body had been wrapped in towels and blankets and placed inside a closet, where it had begun to decompose. The condition of the remains suggested the killing had occurred prior to the driver’s arrival, though authorities have not publicly specified an exact time of death.

The delivery driver’s call appears to have been a critical turning point in the case. According to affidavits cited by local outlets including WCNC-TV and WSOC-TV, the driver not only detected the odor but was allegedly told that a body was inside the residence. Investigators have not clarified who made that statement or under what circumstances it was communicated, leaving a key detail in the timeline unresolved.

Within 24 hours of the discovery, police arrested 23-year-old Lhis Birito Costa in connection with the killing. Authorities confirmed Costa has been charged with murder, though additional details about potential charges or enhancements have not been released.

Prosecutors and court filings reviewed by local media suggest the case may have stemmed from a domestic dispute. Costa and Enamorado-Cisnado were previously in a relationship, and investigators allege Costa admitted to shooting the victim after learning she was involved with another partner. Officials have not indicated whether the statement was formally recorded or if it will be used as part of the prosecution’s case.

The killing adds to a broader pattern of domestic violence-related homicides that continue to be a persistent concern nationwide. Law enforcement officials often note that relationship disputes remain one of the most common underlying factors in violent crime cases involving young adults.
