A superyacht based in Sarasota struck a docking facility Monday in Fort Lauderdale’s Riverwalk neighborhood, causing property damage in an incident captured on video by a bystander. The 112-foot Westport motor yacht “The Determination” collided with the dock structure at 398 SE 1st Ave. along the North River Walk after being towed at excessive speed down the New River. Emergency responders from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and police arrived at the scene following the Monday afternoon crash.
Michael Mobile, known on social media as Mobile Mike, recorded footage of the collision showing the superyacht and a Steel Towing vessel at the moment of impact. Mobile stated he observed the yacht traveling at an unusually high rate of speed while under tow and immediately began documenting the incident. His video post on X detailed how he recognized the dangerous situation developing as the vessel approached the docking area.
Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the cause of the towing accident or the extent of damage sustained. Local 10 News reported it is seeking statements from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department to provide further information about the incident.
