‘I had a few’: Video shows DUI arrest of Key West police officer

Newly released video shows the DUI arrest of an officer with the Key West Police Department.Authorities said they found off-duty KWPD Officer Dustin Christina, 40, sitting in the driver’s seat of his parked white Ford pickup truck around 5 a.m. on Aug. 16. in the Old City Hall parking lot off Greene Street, between Duval and Simonton streets. In his arrest report, officers said they saw Christina turning the corner from Greene to Ann streets a couple hours prior and nearly hitting a woman who had to run onto the curb to avoid being hit. When officers later approached Christina inside the parked vehicle and asked him how much he had to drink, he told them, “I had a few,” before stating that he was not the person who drove his truck to that location, telling officers, “I didn’t do anything. I’m f—ing waiting for someone to get me and then they left and now I’m waiting,” according to his arrest report. Officers said that while speaking to Christina, they noticed that he had “a blank stare, his eyes were bloodshot, glassy, watery and droopy, he appeared to have a flushed face, and there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person,” per the report. Additionally, police said when Christina got out of the truck, he “wiped his forehead, stumbled backward onto his vehicle and used the lower half of his legs to push off the vehicle” before he “attempted to close his driver’s door, missed it, and stumbled away from his vehicle.”When officers attempted to perform DUI tests on Christina, police said he told them, “Nah, I’m not doing it. I’m sitting here in a non-running vehicle.”KWPD said a supervising officer at the scene determined there was probable cause to arrest Christina, and he was charged with DUI and refusing to submit to a blood alcohol test and taken to the Monroe County Detention Center.
