Justin Rose salvaged an otherwise disappointing final round at the Tour Championship with a spectacular ace on Sunday. Playing the par 3 ninth hole at 2-over par for the day and far removed from contention in the PGA Tour’s season-ending event, Rose selected a six-iron that proved to be the perfect club choice.
The ninth hole stretched to 208 yards Sunday and presented a formidable challenge, requiring players to carry their shots over water to reach the green. Rose executed flawlessly, with his iron shot landing directly in the cup without touching the ground—a rare “slam-dunk” variety of hole-in-one that immediately drew celebration from the English golfer.
Rose marked the moment with characteristic enthusiasm, raising his arms before mimicking his ball’s descent into the hole. The momentum proved short-lived, however, as he recorded a bogey on the following par 4 tenth hole to conclude his round.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler came tantalizingly close to his own ace moments before Rose’s heroics, leaving his shot on the par 3 second hole inside three inches of the cup. Rose, a 2018 FedEx Cup winner, won his 13th PGA Tour title earlier this year at the Farmers Insurance Open by seven strokes. The 46-year-old aims to qualify for his eighth Ryder Cup appearance when the biennial competition travels to Ireland in fall 2027.
