Novak Djokovic, at age 39, launched his campaign for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title on Sunday evening against Mariano Navone. The veteran champion arrives at the tournament following a first-round exit at the Cincinnati Open earlier this month, a hardcourt warmup event.
Venus Williams closed out evening proceedings at Arthur Ashe Stadium against fellow American wild card Sophia Kenin. Williams is slated to compete in doubles play alongside her sister Serena during the tournament.
