Meghan Markle Eyes Return to Acting as Potential ‘Gentlemen’ Role Reignites Career Questions

Meghan Markle is reportedly negotiating to appear in Season 3 of “The Gentlemen,” the latest development in a career marked by frequent professional pivots since departing royal life. People magazine confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex remains in discussions for the role despite earlier reports suggesting the deal had collapsed, though no agreement has been finalized at this time.

Industry observers have begun questioning whether a return to scripted television signals the failure of Markle’s various business ventures. Kinsey Schofield, host of YouTube’s “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered,” told Fox News Digital that accepting a role in the drama would underscore a broader pattern: “Podcaster, producer, lifestyle entrepreneur, philanthropist, media mogul — returning to acting would suggest that the most viable professional identity Meghan has found may ultimately be the one she walked away from.”

The potential “Gentlemen” role would represent Markle’s most significant return to acting since her departure from the legal drama “Suits.” She previously filmed a cameo appearance as herself for Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming comedy “Close Personal Friends,” but a recurring or guest role in the Guy Ritchie series would mark her most substantial scripted work in years. The show, which stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Giancarlo Esposito, is produced in the United Kingdom.

Doug Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, characterized Markle’s struggles as fundamentally rooted in identity. “This has been the lingering problem for Meghan all these years: what is her identity?” he said. “She’s ridden a carousel of career horses. Yet for all the rotations, nothing has seemingly stuck.”

Markle’s professional trajectory since 2020 has included both high-profile partnerships and notable setbacks. Her Spotify podcast “Archetypes” concluded after one season in 2023, while Netflix’s animated series “Pearl” never reached production. Her lifestyle brand initially launched as American Riviera Orchard before being relaunched as As Ever in 2025. Dan Wakeford, founder of Celebrity Intelligence, suggested that returning to acting represents Markle’s most pragmatic path forward. He noted that her previous ventures failed partly due to credibility issues rather than inherent flaws in execution. “The most interesting path forward for Meghan is that a return to acting would actually be a wise move,” he said, comparing her situation to actress Demi Moore’s career resurgence with “The Substance.”

Schofield expressed skepticism about the likelihood of genuine industry enthusiasm for Markle’s comeback. She pointed out that during six years in California with substantial resources, including relationships with Netflix and Tyler Perry, Markle had optimal conditions to pursue acting if it remained a priority. “If acting was genuinely her ambition, she was already standing in arguably the best place in the world to pursue it,” Schofield said.

Schofield acknowledged that “The Gentlemen” would represent a strategic choice given its established viewership and creative credibility. However, she emphasized a critical challenge: “She would have to prove she can disappear into a character rather than have every scene become about Meghan Markle.” Schofield also noted that despite public divisions regarding Markle’s reputation, her prominent global profile guarantees significant media attention around any professional undertaking.
