Lando Norris Commits to McLaren Through 2030 With Landmark Contract Extension

McLaren announced Saturday that defending world champion Lando Norris has committed to the team through the conclusion of the 2030 season, with provisions for additional years beyond that point. The British driver’s agreement includes what the organization described as a “multi-year option to commit beyond that date,” though specific financial details were withheld from the public announcement.

The Press Association reported that Norris’s new arrangement could provide annual compensation reaching $35 million. The 26-year-old secured McLaren’s first drivers’ championship since Lewis Hamilton’s inaugural title win in 2008, representing a significant milestone for the storied racing outfit.

Norris emphasized his commitment to the team’s long-term objectives in a statement, noting that his nine-year journey at McLaren has centered on restoring the organization to competitive prominence. “We’ve achieved that goal, but we want more; we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we’re capable of achieving it,” he said.

Currently fourth in the standings, Norris trails Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli by 83 points heading into next weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. Despite consecutive victories at Hungary and the Dutch Grand Prix on August 23, Norris acknowledged ongoing performance limitations, particularly in slow-speed corner handling.

Over his McLaren tenure spanning 163 Grand Prix starts—more than any driver in the team’s history—Norris has accumulated 13 wins, 48 podium finishes, and 18 pole positions. Team principal Andrea Stella praised Norris as “an exceptional driver” who combines speed with maturity and remains deeply valued within the organization.
