Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese faces a mandatory one-game suspension for Sunday’s matchup against Minnesota after accumulating her eighth technical foul during Friday night’s loss to the Portland Fire. The infraction stemmed from a fourth-quarter altercation when Reese tangled with Fire defender Carla Leite near the basket as teammate Rhyne Howard converted a three-pointer from the right wing.

Leite extended both arms backward to box out Reese, who pushed free after Howard’s shot fell through the net. Reese protested the official’s decision, setting the stage for a potential appeal to league headquarters. Should the WNBA office overturn the technical, she would remain eligible to play in Sunday’s home game.

The precedent for such appeals materialized earlier this month when the league rescinded a technical against Chicago Sky guard Caitlin Clark, preventing what would have been her automatic suspension for reaching eight technicals. Portland prevailed over playoff-contending Atlanta 101-83, with Leite leading the Fire with 26 points.
