Two suspects arrested in connection with a burglary at the Coral Gables residence of Henry Parra and Adam Hlavaty—both killed in an August 19 helicopter crash in Kenya—have led authorities to uncover an extensive criminal enterprise involving identity theft, fraud and vehicle theft. Coral Gables Police Department Chief Ed Hudak announced the arrests Friday alongside Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and other law enforcement officials. Parra, 55, and Hlavaty, 42, were among seven people who died in the crash.
Suspects Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Perdomo, 24, targeted the Valencia Avenue home on the day the victims died in Kenya, according to authorities. Officers discovered that the pair stole jewelry, electronics, artwork, documents, a Porsche and a Range Rover from the residence located in the 8300 block of Northwest 195th Terrace. Hudak characterized the timing and nature of the burglary as “reprehensible,” noting the victims were deliberately targeted due to knowledge of their deaths.
The investigation revealed a sophisticated operation involving forged documentation, including purportedly notarized papers claiming the deceased signed over vehicle ownership to Garcia. Investigators recovered 20 key fobs linked to stolen vehicles at the suspects’ home and located a Ford F-250 with an altered Vehicle Identification Number that had been stolen from Indian River County. Authorities also discovered boxes of documents suggesting additional victims of the wider criminal scheme.
The scope of criminal activity prompted Coral Gables police to partner with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and multiple federal agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Diplomatic Security Service due to passport fraud allegations. Garcia and Perdomo remain held without bond at Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges including burglary and grand theft. Both are scheduled for arraignment on September 28.
