Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is now facing two misdemeanor charges filed Thursday by Brown County District Attorney David L. Lasee stemming from a domestic situation in May. The charges include battery and criminal damage to property, each carrying potential penalties of up to nine months in jail and fines reaching $20,000, plus possible prison time of up to 18 months if Jacobs is convicted on both counts.

The charges represent a significant downgrade from Jacobs’ original May 23 arrest, when he was booked on felony strangulation and suffocation allegations along with domestic-abuse battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct and intimidation of a victim. Lasee’s office stated that a thorough investigation and recently completed forensic work led to the decision to pursue the lesser misdemeanor charges rather than felony charges.

Jacobs’ legal team, represented by attorneys David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld and Clarence F. Duchac III, emphasized that the charges do not include domestic violence allegations and indicated the matter will be resolved through the court system. “Mr. Jacobs respects the District Attorney’s office and the process it followed,” the statement said.

NFL leadership confirmed it will continue monitoring the case under its Personal Conduct Policy, which allows for potential discipline regardless of the legal outcome. Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst stated the organization is prepared for any scenario, including a possible suspension during the 2026 season, with backup running back MarShawn Lloyd currently on the roster.
