Grant Horvat, a YouTube golf personality with 1.8 million subscribers, announced the launch of his Lil’ Legends Starter Set in collaboration with Performance Golf on Wednesday. The product line targets children ages 3 to 6 and includes a toddler-height driver, iron, and putter alongside a training grip, carrying mat, foam balls, and tees, plus instructional video content featuring five practice games.
The bundle’s $199 price tag has generated considerable criticism within the golf community, particularly given that comparable children’s golf sets made from plastic retail for approximately $25. Horvat, who amassed his wealth through YouTube content creation and previously was affiliated with the popular Good Good golf brand, has drawn scrutiny for the premium pricing on equipment marketed toward young players.
The Lil’ Legends website does not explicitly specify the material composition of the clubs, though images suggest they are not constructed from traditional metal. Performance Golf stated in response to inquiries that the clubs are “real golf equipment, not plastic toy clubs or cut down adult clubs” made with “toddler-safe materials” designed for durability during actual swings.
The product’s marketing materials acknowledge the price disparity directly, claiming plastic sets are toys that “break and teach nothing,” while the Lil’ Legends equipment represents genuine, engineered golf gear rather than toys. Critics contend that the positioning does not adequately justify the cost premium relative to other youth-oriented golf equipment available in the market.
