A federal judge in Minnesota on Wednesday handed down prison sentences to two men convicted of participating in one of the nation’s largest pandemic fraud schemes. Ahmed Ghedi received a sentence exceeding five years, while Abdihakim Ahmed was sentenced to four and a half years in connection with their roles in the Feeding Our Future operation.

The two men were instrumental in administering the fraudulent nonprofit, which falsely claimed to distribute meals daily to thousands of children throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Federal prosecutors determined that Ghedi and Ahmed diverted approximately $7.3 million in COVID-19 relief funding intended for the program, instead using the money to purchase vehicles and real estate while distributing additional funds to program employees.

The court ordered both defendants to make substantial restitution payments, with Ahmed required to pay $2,242,590 and Ghedi ordered to pay $2,862,451. Their convictions represent a significant development in the sprawling investigation that has resulted in dozens of prosecutions, many involving members of Minnesota’s Somali community.

The sentencing follows the May conviction of Amee Bock, the organization’s leader, who received a nearly 42-year prison term after being found guilty of orchestrating $250 million in fraudulent pandemic relief claims. Federal prosecutors characterized the nonprofit as a “cash conduit” that operated through fabricated distribution centers, counterfeit beneficiary rosters, and systematic kickback schemes.

The investigation into the Feeding Our Future fraud prompted a significant federal law enforcement deployment to the Minneapolis-St. Paul region during the winter months under the Trump administration, an operation that subsequently triggered civil unrest and several fatal confrontations involving federal officers.
