Federal authorities arrested Jeanine John Taele, 38, on August 2 at Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes after he was found on the grounds during a presidential visit. The arrest revealed that Taele possessed over 200 pages of writings, including detailed schedules for First Lady Melania Trump and comprehensive information about Secret Service personnel assigned to protect the president’s family.

Court documents presented during a Los Angeles County hearing Wednesday showed that Taele maintained seven notebooks containing 208 pages of drawings and sketches of the golf club, listings of Secret Service schedules, and personal details about individual security officers. Additionally, the materials included survival instructions for living “off the grid,” prosecutors stated.

Plainclothes federal agents initially spotted Taele photographing and recording on the club’s grounds while monitoring security preparations. Deputies discovered a loaded 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition in his pocket, while a subsequent vehicle search uncovered a loaded pistol with an additional magazine of hollow-point rounds.

A search of Taele’s Downey residence yielded an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a .45-caliber pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, radio signal devices, and multiple notebooks authorities described as containing “concerning statements.” Taele falsely claimed he worked for the State Department and was present for security purposes.

Los Angeles County Judge John Lonergan Jr. characterized the allegations as “alarming” given contemporary political divisions and violence trends. Following a mental health evaluation determining Taele unfit to stand trial, the judge suspended criminal proceedings and transferred the case to mental health court.

Taele, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, will remain detained pending a September 9 hearing at Hollywood Mental Health Court. His public defender, A.J. Bayne, urged caution against assumptions regarding his client’s intentions, noting Taele’s military service and family support.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Secret Service, and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are jointly investigating the matter. The Secret Service declined to discuss specific protective intelligence details but confirmed it thoroughly investigates any activity that may indicate threats toward individuals under its protection.
