Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli secured a spot in the U.S. Open mixed doubles final Wednesday evening after mounting a comeback against the married pairing of Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils. The Swiss and Italian combination prevailed 4-5 (7), 4-1 (10-5) in a competitive matchup at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
Having dropped their first set against Svitolina and Monfils, Bencic and Cobolli took control of the second set midway through the match. They won the final 11 consecutive points to force a decisive match tiebreaker, which they ultimately won to advance.
Bencic and Cobolli will face the winner of the other semifinal between Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev. The winning team will receive $1 million in prize money. Earlier in the tournament, Bencic and Cobolli eliminated Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
