A theft at Tacos & Cantina La Potranca on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood was caught on surveillance video Wednesday evening around 8:30 p.m. The footage shows a woman entering the restaurant with an empty paper bag, surveying the dining area, and then grabbing the plastic tip jar before placing it inside the bag and departing with her companion.

General Manager Brisa Briones said the stolen jar contained approximately $200 in tips that had been collected from customers placing to-go orders. The couple ordered “two or three” taquitos, paid with cash, and left after taking several napkins, with staff members not discovering the missing jar until the following day.

Restaurant employees had established the tip jar specifically to direct gratuities toward kitchen staff members who prepared food for takeout customers. “The people in the kitchen work so hard,” Briones said, expressing frustration over the theft. “They don’t deserve that.”

Miami police are investigating the incident using the surveillance footage. The Miami-Dade Police Department has asked anyone with information to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
