President Donald Trump’s aide Natalie Harp has become the subject of extensive media scrutiny following a stump speech by Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., who referenced her in remarks that appeared to suggest an inappropriate relationship with the president. Ossoff has since sought to clarify his comments and distance himself from the innuendo, yet the controversy has dominated cable news programming for more than a week.
According to Grabien transcripts, CNN mentioned Harp’s name at least 308 times between the Monday following Ossoff’s remarks and the subsequent Sunday, while MSNBC logged 344 mentions during the same seven-day period. The coverage has continued this week, with CNN recording 318 additional mentions and MSNBC surpassing 400 mentions through mid-Tuesday.
Both networks have extensively reported on Harp’s personal correspondence expressing loyalty to Trump, her presence aboard his plane during a departure from Turkey last month, and her lack of security clearance despite her proximity to the president. CNN has also unearthed her social media posts from January 6 and reported that she allegedly entered an SUV trunk to accompany Trump to a court appearance in October 2023.
The coverage drew criticism after CNN interviewed Harp’s estranged brother Preston Harp on air. When CNN White House correspondent Kristen Holmes questioned Trump about Ossoff’s comment, the White House responded sharply, prompting CNN to defend its reporter and characterize the attacks as inappropriate.
Curtis Houck, managing editor of NewsBusters at the Media Research Center, told Fox News Digital that both networks have pursued the story aggressively due to their opposition to Trump, suggesting they were willing to damage Harp’s reputation in the process. Representatives for CNN and MSNBC did not respond to requests for comment.
