San Francisco 49ers majority owner Jed York was arrested Sunday in his native Ohio on charges of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. York later accepted a plea deal that reduced the prostitution charge to disorderly conduct, though the original allegation continues to dominate public discussion of the incident.

According to law enforcement, York responded to an online advertisement on a known prostitution website operated in Columbiana County and allegedly arranged sexual activity with a woman for $140. Police say the meeting was supposed to occur near the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community, a trailer park in East Palestine, Ohio, where officers from the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force intercepted him.

York was found in possession of the cellular phone used to arrange the alleged encounter, leading to the criminal tools charge. He was taken into custody by East Palestine police and eventually pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.

The 49ers declined comment Monday, stating the matter is closed. However, the NFL announced it will review York’s conduct under its Personal Conduct Policy, which applies to all league members including ownership and prohibits conduct detrimental to the integrity of professional football.

The incident marks the latest in a series of legal troubles affecting the franchise. Coach Kyle Shanahan was found at fault in a July 14 head-on collision in Palo Alto after dropping his phone while driving a Tesla with autopilot engaged. Receiver Brandon Aiyuk faces a misdemeanor exhibition of speed warrant following a June incident in which he posted video of himself driving over 100 mph near Levi’s Stadium on a road with a 40 mph limit.
