Two Netflix personalities made headlines during their initial court appearance in Manhattan on Monday, drawing media attention as they were photographed embracing while leaving the courthouse. Ivan Kuznetsov, 32, and Angelina Nikolau, 33, stand accused of burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and other charges stemming from their alleged July 1 ascent of the Empire State Building. The East Orange, New Jersey residents reportedly used the unauthorized climb to publicize their engagement, with Kuznetsov proposing atop the 1,500-foot structure while Nikolau displayed her engagement ring.
Police documented the pair at the building’s summit wearing masks and holding signage, body camera footage revealing officers discovering the couple apparently unprotected by safety harnesses. No injuries resulted from the incident, authorities confirmed. The stunt led to their arrest, though specifics regarding the engagement announcement remain part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Days before her court appearance, Nikolau posted to Instagram reflecting on societal progress, stating those who challenge conventional limits and embrace risk-taking propel humanity forward. She concluded by pledging respect for the judicial process and acceptance of consequences. Following Monday’s hearing, she added, “Everything can be taken, except this.”
The couple’s legal representative declined comment to media outlets. The judge rescheduled the case for September, postponing further proceedings in the high-profile matter.
