The New York Police Department has launched an investigation following the circulation of video footage on social media depicting three individuals ascending from a manhole in the vicinity of Penn Station. The individuals in the recording wore work overalls and appeared to be equipped with headlamps as they emerged from underground one after another.
The circumstances surrounding the underground activity remain unclear as authorities work to determine how the individuals accessed the sewer system and for what purpose they were beneath street level. Police have not yet identified the three people captured in the viral video or disclosed whether any charges may be forthcoming.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about access to New York City’s extensive underground infrastructure and raises questions about security protocols in place around transit hubs in Manhattan.
