Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty sustained a right leg injury during Sunday’s practice session and required assistance leaving the field. The 22-year-old star was unable to place any weight on the injured leg after the incident occurred while attempting to haul in a pass during team drills. The indoor facility fell silent as Jeanty remained down, with the entire roster kneeling in prayer for their teammate.
The Raiders organization has not disclosed specifics regarding Jeanty’s condition. Head coach Klint Kubiak will not address the media until Tuesday, leaving the severity of the injury undetermined. The team’s medical staff will evaluate the running back in coming days to determine his status for upcoming games.
Jeanty, selected sixth overall from Boise State last year, delivered a productive rookie campaign despite working behind a struggling offensive line. He recorded 975 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns across 17 games while adding 55 receptions for 346 yards and five receiving touchdowns. During the preseason, Jeanty had seen limited action with just three carries against Arizona and no appearance against Houston.
Should Jeanty miss time, the Raiders would rely on fourth-round rookie Mike Washington Jr., Dylan Laube, undrafted rookie Roman Hemby and Dare Ogunbowale as replacements. Washington assumed first-team snaps following the injury and had already been receiving considerable practice reps due to a strong training camp performance.
