The former talk show host made a brief public appearance in New York City on Wednesday, her first confirmed sighting since February, where she delivered a pointed message to onlookers about her legal situation. The 62-year-old, dressed casually in a black T-shirt, denim shorts and black boots, responded sharply when asked about her circumstances, stating simply: “I want out.” Williams was accompanied by a male companion as she navigated through the city streets.

Williams has remained largely out of the spotlight since 2022, when her 13-season daytime talk show concluded and she was placed under court-ordered guardianship. Her public silence has intensified scrutiny around her health status and the ongoing legal arrangements governing her personal and financial matters.

In February 2024, her representatives disclosed that she had received diagnoses of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023. The announcement cited years of observed changes in her behavior, speech patterns and ability to manage financial matters as context for the medical evaluations that preceded the diagnoses.

Williams has publicly rejected the dementia diagnosis. Her attorney, Joe Tacopina, stated in December 2025 that a neurological evaluation by Dr. Samuel E. Gandy concluded she does not have frontotemporal dementia, and suggested instead that alcohol-related cognitive decline may have contributed to her earlier struggles.

Tacopina indicated during a “Nightline” appearance that Williams battled severe alcohol addiction around the time of her initial health concerns in 2023 and 2024. The Lifetime documentary series “Where Is Wendy Williams?” previously explored her documented struggles with substance abuse and life outside broadcasting.

Following the public announcement of her diagnosis in 2024, Williams released a statement expressing gratitude for the support she received and voiced hope that her experience might help others facing similar conditions.
