Serena Williams will compete alongside top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles at the U.S. Open, marking her first appearance at the tournament since 2022. The U.S. Tennis Association granted both competitors wild card entries into the event Saturday, with their mixed doubles competition beginning Tuesday.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion has made her competitive comeback this summer following time away from professional tennis. While Williams has not confirmed whether she will enter the singles draw in New York, the USTA maintains a women’s wild card available should she choose to participate in that format.
Williams previously competed in singles at Wimbledon this year and partnered with her sister Venus in doubles at the Cincinnati Open. Meanwhile, Alcaraz announced this week that he will defend his U.S. Open singles title after recovering from a right wrist injury that sidelined him since April.
