British rapper and social media personality Yung Filly will undergo a second trial on three rape allegations stemming from an incident at a Perth hotel in September 2024, prosecutors announced Friday. The 30-year-old entertainer, born Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, learned of the decision during a District Court hearing in Western Australia’s capital city.
Barrientos faced an eight-day trial last month that ended with a mixed verdict. Jurors convicted him on two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm against the then-20-year-old woman but deadlocked on the three remaining rape charges, failing to achieve the required 10-of-12 majority needed for conviction on those counts. The jury also acquitted him of choking charges and three additional rape counts.
Prosecutor Danielle Clarke confirmed the alleged victim, whose identity is protected by law, has agreed to participate in retrial proceedings. Judge Linda Black, who oversaw the initial trial, requested both the defense and prosecution consider whether they prefer a different judge and whether the case should proceed before a jury or be heard by a judge alone.
Barrientos will be sentenced on his assault convictions following the retrial’s conclusion, though no trial date has been scheduled. The Colombian-born performer, who was touring Australia at the time of the alleged offense, remains free on bail and spent recent months in Britain.
