Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar will face Democratic challenger Eliott Rodriguez, both retired broadcast journalists with Cuban-American roots, in the November midterm election for Florida’s 27th Congressional District. Salazar, 64, secured her party’s nomination Tuesday by capturing 81 percent of Republican primary votes, defeating attorney V. Michael Arias of Coral Gables, who garnered 19 percent.
On the Democratic side, Rodriguez, 69, emerged victorious with 54 percent of primary votes cast against Robin Peguero, a former federal prosecutor who received 46 percent. The congressional district encompasses approximately 788,713 residents across roughly 119 square miles of Miami-Dade County, according to 2024 Census data.
Voters in the district face several upcoming deadlines in the election cycle. The voter registration deadline is October 5th, while those seeking mail ballots must request them by October 22nd. Early in-person voting runs October 24th through 31st, with Election Day set for November 3rd.
