Broward County’s chief elections official characterized primary day voting as underwhelming, with the county recording a 16 percent voter turnout by mid-afternoon Tuesday. The county, home to more than 1.35 million registered voters spread across 346 precincts, saw 217,520 ballots cast as of approximately 6:45 p.m., according to Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott.
Voting patterns in the county reflected three distinct methods of participation, with Scott’s office documenting that roughly 35 percent of voters used mail-in ballots, while approximately 28 percent cast votes during the early-voting period. Election Day voting accounted for about 36.6 percent of the ballots cast, the elections supervisor reported before polls closed at 7 p.m.
Polling locations throughout Broward operated from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. on Tuesday as the county participated in the statewide primary election cycle.
