As a 60-day ceasefire window closes Monday, President Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons during an appearance on Fox News. Trump confirmed the existence of direct communications between U.S. officials and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that operate outside traditional diplomatic channels and bypass intermediaries.
Trump called for Iran to “put up the white flag of surrender” and reiterated that preventing Iranian nuclear weapons development remains his paramount objective. “The number one goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a Nuclear Weapon,” he stated on Truth Social during the same interview with Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst.
The president dismissed suggestions that political considerations are influencing his military strategy, stating flatly that midterm elections play no role in his decision-making. He characterized Iranian negotiators as skilled tacticians while asserting that time remains available for a diplomatic resolution before the ceasefire deadline passes.
Trump issued a stark warning to Oman regarding its involvement in Iran negotiations, threatening military action if the Gulf nation interferes with U.S. objectives. He also addressed Israel’s military operations in Gaza, suggesting that Israeli forces should cease strikes while a disarmament plan for Hamas advances.
Regarding Israel’s domestic politics, Trump stated he would appropriately remain neutral in its elections while leaving open the possibility of endorsing a candidate. He also claimed that American weapons usage in regional conflicts has been minimal, describing the depleted arsenal as “peanuts” relative to available mid-level armaments.
