Joseph Sawyer marked his return to Game Changer Wrestling with a triumphant capture of the GCW World Championship on Saturday night at the Showboat Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The former WWE performer, previously billed as Joe Gacy, defeated Atticus Cogar in a grueling match that featured significant bloodshed and brutality typical of the independent promotion’s style. The Franklin, New Jersey native had not competed for GCW since 2020, when he wrestled under the moniker Psycho Joe.

The main event bout between Sawyer and Cogar incorporated numerous weapons including steel chairs and a door positioned in the ring corner. Sawyer concluded the violent encounter by executing a Sister Abigail DDT, prompting the packed crowd at the Showboat venue to erupt in celebration. The championship victory punctuated a night honoring the memory of late WWE performer Bray Wyatt, who died unexpectedly in August 2023, with Cogar’s entrance music serving as tribute to the fallen star.

The card showcased multiple extreme matches featuring light tubes, chains, scaffolding apparatus, and barbed wire tables. In the Chola Chain Match, Vipress defeated Christian Napier after wrapping the connecting chain around his face to secure a submission victory, subsequently challenging for the GCW Ultraviolent Championship held by Otis Cogar.
