Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige unveiled major casting decisions for the studio’s forthcoming “X-Men” reboot during Friday’s D23 convention presentation in Anaheim, California. Adam Driver will portray the super villain Mister Sinister, marking his long-awaited entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor appeared via video feed to announce his role, initially joking that he would play Magneto before revealing he would instead take on the villain’s true name, Nathaniel Millbury.
Inde Navarette, the breakout star of the indie horror film “Obsession,” will assume the role of Rogue in the reboot. Christopher Abbott, Driver’s former castmate from “Girls,” joins the ensemble as Professor Charles Xavier, while Maya Boyd has been cast as Storm. Director Jake Schreier will helm the film, which is scheduled for theatrical release in May 2028.
Additional cast members previously announced include Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. The ensemble gathered at Honda Center in Anaheim, with Feige noting that most of the actors were meeting one another for the first time backstage. The X-Men project became feasible following Disney’s 2019 acquisition of Fox’s film studio.
Lee Sung Jin, creator of the acclaimed series “Beef,” and Joanna Calo, a co-showrunner on “The Bear,” are developing the screenplay for the superhero reboot.
