Matthew Bellamy, lead singer of the British rock band Muse, initiated divorce proceedings against his wife Elle Evans on August 12 in Los Angeles Superior Court. The musician cited irreconcilable differences as the grounds for ending their six-year marriage and requested both legal and physical custody of their two minor children in the filing.
The divorce petition invokes the couple’s prenuptial agreement to address financial matters between the estranged pair. According to court documents reviewed by Fox News Digital, Bellamy indicated that Evans would be eligible for spousal support under the agreement’s terms while simultaneously requesting that the court deny him any support payments. The specific financial details and payout amounts remain sealed from public disclosure.
Bellamy acknowledged in his petition that he has not yet fully catalogued their separate property, assets, and financial obligations. He reserved the option to amend the filing as additional community property or debts surface during the divorce process, potentially opening the door to further disputes over finances.
The couple separated last summer, Bellamy revealed during a June interview with The i Paper, describing the split as resulting from “unexpected circumstances” that required him to focus on caring for their children and maintaining household stability. Bellamy and Evans met in 2015 while filming a music video for Muse’s track “Mercy” and married in 2019 after he proposed during a Fiji vacation in December 2017.
The estranged couple shares a daughter born in 2020 and a son born in 2024.
