House Democrats Boost Ohio Ad Spending as Miller Defies Party Pressure Over Abuse Allegations

House Majority PAC, a super PAC supporting U.S. House Democrats, announced plans Friday to inject an additional $6 million into campaign advertising in the Cleveland market, bringing its total ad reservations in the Ohio region to approximately $7 million. The significant financial commitment follows Republican Rep. Max Miller’s decision to remain in his reelection race despite calls from within his own party to withdraw following domestic abuse allegations raised by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno.

Miller’s continued candidacy triggered swift action from Democratic leadership. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, House Democrats’ primary campaign apparatus, added Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter to its roster of priority candidates this week in response to the renewed attention surrounding the allegations and Miller’s refusal to step aside.

The House Ethics Committee opened an investigation into the abuse allegations against Miller last week. Trump, whom Miller consulted with regarding his political future, stopped short of urging the congressman to leave the race, though he acknowledged the path forward would be challenging for the Ohio Republican.

Miller has rejected the abuse allegations and committed $1 million in personal funds toward his campaign. The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Friday it would maintain support for Miller’s reelection effort, even as Democrats position themselves to capitalize on the controversy in Ohio’s 7th District, a territory Trump won by 11 percentage points in 2024.
