A violent collision involving a car hauler, motorcycle and multiple other vehicles erupted Thursday evening on Florida’s Turnpike in Broward County, triggering substantial traffic congestion throughout the evening commute. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the incident, which created dangerous conditions for motorists in the area.
Emergency responders blocked three southbound lanes between Commercial Boulevard and Sunrise Boulevard as firefighting and rescue personnel worked at the scene. Four individuals required hospital transport, with one patient designated as a trauma alert due to the severity of their injuries, according to authorities.
A second collision developed simultaneously in the northbound lanes adjacent to the primary crash site, with one lane restricted and further compounding traffic delays. Multiple fire departments answered the call, including units from Tamarac, Lauderhill and Sunrise, along with additional emergency personnel.
The Florida Highway Patrol had not disclosed the circumstances that precipitated either of the crashes as of the latest reports. Investigators continued working to determine what factors led to the initial fiery collision.
