President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will exit her position by month’s end. The 28-year-old aide, the youngest to serve in the role, recently returned to work following maternity leave for the birth of her second child in May.
Leavitt previously worked in Trump’s first administration as a press aide and has emerged as a prominent voice for the president’s “Make America Great Again” agenda. Trump characterized her as one of his “most trusted aides” in the announcement posted on social media.
According to Trump’s statement, Leavitt is departing to prioritize time with her young children and family. He indicated she will transition to an advisory capacity outside the White House while maintaining an active role in Republican Party strategy as the party works toward success in the midterm elections.
