Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers acknowledged Wednesday that he wished Thursday’s preseason exhibition against the Green Bay Packers would be held in Green Bay rather than Pittsburgh. The matchup marks only the second time Rodgers will face his former team since departing the organization in 2023, and notably, both encounters have taken place in the Steel City rather than at Lambeau Field.
During a video conference with Packers media members, Rodgers outlined his nostalgia for Wisconsin and expressed regret about missing the opportunity to spend time in Green Bay during what will be his final NFL season. He mentioned wanting to visit local restaurants and golf courses and reconnect with people still working for the franchise he spent 18 seasons with as a player.
Rodgers won four MVP awards and a Super Bowl championship during his tenure with Green Bay before joining the Jets in 2023 and subsequently signing with Pittsburgh. He will retire without ever having played against the Packers at Lambeau as a visiting player, a fact that appears to weigh on him as his career winds down.
The Steelers defeated Green Bay 35-25 last October in their previous matchup, with Packers quarterback Jordan Love—the 2020 first-round pick selected to eventually replace Rodgers—throwing for 360 yards and three touchdowns. No determination has been made yet regarding whether Rodgers will see action in Thursday’s preseason game.
