Michael Alfonso claimed the Republican Party’s nomination Tuesday in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, defeating multiple challengers in a crowded primary contest. The 26-year-old candidate, who is married to the daughter of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy, now pursues the same northern Wisconsin congressional seat his father-in-law held from 2011 to 2019.
President Donald Trump issued an endorsement on Truth Social ahead of Election Day, calling Alfonso a “MAGA Warrior” and a young “STAR” dedicated to serving the district. Trump’s statement outlined Alfonso’s positions on economic growth, tax and regulatory cuts, agricultural support, domestic manufacturing, energy independence, border security, election integrity, and Second Amendment protections.
The district has remained under Republican control for the past 15 years and is rated solidly Republican by the Cook Political Report. During the 2024 presidential election, Trump captured approximately 60 percent of the vote in the district.
Alfonso will face Fred Clark, a former Wisconsin state assemblyman who won the Democratic primary Tuesday, in the November general election. Clark’s campaign emphasizes rural revival through bipartisan cooperation and accountability to constituent interests.
