Two South Florida municipalities are marking their centennial anniversaries with specially produced television programming set to debut Monday evening. Local 10 will air documentaries examining the distinct historical trajectories and contemporary identities of Miami Springs and Opa-locka, communities separated by geography but united in their milestone celebrations.
Miami Springs emerged from the vision of an aviation pioneer and has developed into a community intrinsically tied to Miami International Airport’s operations and growth. The documentary features interviews with local historians, airline employees, and business proprietors who have shaped the city’s development and continue to sustain its economy and character today.
Opa-locka’s founding drew inspiration from Arabian Nights folklore, resulting in a distinctive architectural landscape that reflects those literary themes. The program includes perspectives from a Grammy-nominated musician, long-term residents, and architectural preservationists who chronicle the city’s unusual origins and ongoing efforts to maintain its cultural heritage.
Both documentaries will premiere Monday at 8 p.m. on Local 10, offering viewers an in-depth look at how these communities have evolved over their first century of existence.
