NASCAR announced a significant scheduling overhaul for the 2027 season, relocating the Wheatley Vodka Clash back to Daytona International Speedway for the first time in recent years. The exhibition race will take place Saturday evening, February 13, positioning it eight days ahead of the Daytona 500 on the oval rather than the road course where it ran most recently in 2021.

The new timeline resurrects the long-dormant “Speedweeks” format that once defined NASCAR’s season opener, replacing the recent practice of scheduling the Clash two weeks before the 500. The restructured calendar also strategically places the event on Super Bowl weekend, allowing the sport to capitalize on heightened television viewership during one of the year’s most-watched sporting periods.

The late Kyle Busch secured the final Clash victory at Daytona in 2021, claiming the road course competition. Eligibility requirements for the invitation-only 2027 event remain under determination by NASCAR officials. The organization’s decision marks one of its most consequential scheduling changes in years, according to racing analysts.

Driver Ryan Blaney paid tribute to Busch this weekend by racing in a custom helmet honoring the late competitor. Blaney stated his intention to present the helmet to Busch’s family following the single race, calling it his personal way of demonstrating respect for Busch’s legacy and accomplishments within the sport.

Meanwhile, Hendrick Motorsports continues struggling through a difficult stretch, with driver William Byron posting a ninth-place finish as the team’s first top-10 result in nearly a month. Chase Elliott has not cracked the top-10 since May 31 at Nashville, signaling deeper mechanical or strategic complications at the organization.
