Erwin Rommel Recinos, 30, has been returned to Miami-Dade County and remanded to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center following his extradition from Honduras on July 23. The defendant faces three counts of DUI manslaughter, three counts of vehicular homicide committed in a reckless manner, DUI causing serious bodily injury, and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury.
The fatal collision occurred on February 13, 2022, near a Valero gas station on West Flagler Street at Southwest 48th Avenue around 3 a.m. Three victims—Paola Sabillon, Jason Meza, and Giselle Reyes—were killed in the crash. Miami police arrested Recinos on March 24, 2022, months after the incident.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported Recinos to Honduras on September 6, 2024, following a final order signed by a federal judge. Officials later determined the deportation was made in error given the pending criminal charges against him. Recinos now remains in custody on an immigration hold, though authorities have stated he will not face deportation again until after his trial concludes and any sentence is completed if he is convicted.
