The 67-year-old rock legend announced the postponement of her final two scheduled performances for 2026 after requiring orthopedic surgery to address a fractured vertebra. Joan Jett & the Blackhearts will not appear at their planned September engagements in Costa Mesa, California on September 5 and Louisville, Kentucky on September 24, according to a statement posted to the band’s Instagram Story Tuesday.
Jett’s medical team has advised against touring while she undergoes physical therapy and recovery from the spinal procedure. “While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing,” the statement noted. “She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.”
The Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa announced that Cheap Trick, with X as opener, will perform in Jett’s place on September 5. Ticket holders can retain their admission without action, though refunds are available through their original point of purchase. The Louisville show was scheduled as part of the Bourbon & Beyond festival, which features Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Mumford & Sons, Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves.
Jett rose to prominence in the 1970s as a founding member of The Runaways before establishing Joan Jett & the Blackhearts in 1979. The band has released 10 studio albums since 1981, achieving platinum status with anthems including “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” and “Bad Reputation.” The group earned Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2015 and released their debut acoustic album “Changeup” in 2022.
The legendary performer recently completed the band’s first headline tour of the United Kingdom in 16 years during July. In a 2025 interview, Jett acknowledged the physical demands of decades spent touring, noting that maintaining fitness through daily walking, weightlifting and core exercises has become increasingly important as she ages.
