Twitch Streamer Hasan Piker Doubles Down on Controversial Hamas Remarks, Defends ‘Intentionally Provocative’ Language

Prominent Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has reaffirmed his controversial statements describing Hamas as “a thousand times better than the fascist settler colonial apartheid state” of Israel, telling Rolling Stone Magazine on Sunday that his inflammatory rhetoric was deliberate and calculated to provoke critical thought among his audience.

Piker acknowledged the statements were intentionally designed to be divisive, explaining his approach in an interview: “I want to force people to really think about what I’m saying. I want to challenge them to think about it a little bit.” The streamer originally made the comparison in a January post on X and has repeatedly restated the position despite significant pushback.

While conceding he could reduce public backlash by simply stating Israel was “worse” than Hamas, Piker rejected that softer framing as inconsistent with his communication style. He argued that understanding why Palestinians support Hamas required adopting their perspective, pointing to 75 years of occupation as context for resistance movements.

Piker joked that criticism of his remarks reflected “having the correct position too early,” noting that a Rolling Stone report indicated Democrats viewed Palestinian people more favorably than Israelis, with the Israeli government rating only three points higher than Hamas in party preference surveys.

During an April appearance on “Pod Save America,” Piker restated his position despite objections from co-host Jon Favreau, describing Hamas as a paramilitary organization with a political wing composed of “orphaned children” whose parents were killed by what he characterized as an apartheid state.

In a subsequent CNN interview, Piker clarified that he does not endorse all Hamas actions but maintained that Palestinians possess “a right to resist militarily,” while acknowledging that such resistance sometimes includes war crimes.

The Anti-Defamation League condemned Piker’s remarks in a statement to Fox News Digital, criticizing Democratic officials for appearing alongside the streamer without publicly addressing his statements supporting what the organization described as a designated terrorist entity.
